March – Canadian Music Month

Posted by Abe Batthish on March 27, 2007

Haven’t looked into why March is declared as Canadian Music Month, but I’m not going to complain. It means more than just the mandated 30% Canadian music content on the Toronto airwaves. Great music is one of the many things Canada produces that I’m truly proud of. And next to maybe the British music scene, I think Canadian music is the only other culture of music I consistently enjoy. Sure the US have flashes of greatness now and then, but they also have the formulated pop stars and boy bands that seem to be put together for the sole purpose of $$$.

One current example of Canadian consistency would have to be Sam Roberts.

… a “no-bull shit rock purist” from Montreal that serves one good album after another.

Sam’s latest album, Chemical City , the follow up album to his debut full length album We Were Born In A Flame, is nominated for best rock album in this years Canadian Music Awards called the Junos. Once again, it’s jam-packed with addictive melodies and riffs that linger in your head all day long. “With a Bullet” is stuck in my head right now.
